Youtube is a great resource. In January 2010 a video was uploaded of a rare demo version of Sheena Easton’s Bond theme “For your eyes only“.
It has a typical demo sound to it but what’s interesting is the alternate lyrics. Here they are in full. Enjoy!
Music: Bill Conti. Lyrics: Michael Leeson.
Recorded Demo Lyrics
For your eyes only can see me through the night
For your eyes only the darkness comes alight
Never ever lose control unless I wanted to
Not afraid to play with fire for you
For your eyes only, only for you
You see what no one else can see, and now I’m breaking free
For your eyes only, only for you
The passions that collide in me, the wild abandoned side of me
Only for you, only for you
For your eyes only I never gonna fight
For your eyes only can move me, mystify
Sensing there’s a double life no love can reach into
I’ll give as much, as anyone can do
For your eyes only, only for you
You see what no one else can see, and now I’m breaking free
For your eyes only, only for you
The passions that collide in me, the wild abandoned side of me
Only for you, for your eyes only
Original Lyrics For Your Eyes Only
For your eyes only, can see me through the night
For your eyes only, I never need to hide
You can see so much in me, so much in me that’s new
I never felt until I looked at you
For your eyes only, only for you
You’ll see what noone else can see, and now I’m breaking free
For your eyes only, only for you
The love I know you need in me, the fantasy you’ve freed in me
Only for you, only for you
For your eyes only, the nights are never cold
You really know me, that’s all I need to know
Maybe I’m an open book because I know you’re mine
But you won’t need to read between the lines
For your eyes only, only for you
You see what no one else can see, and now I’m breaking free
For your eyes only, only for you
The passions that collide in me, the wild abandoned side of me
Only for you, for your eyes only

I think the line is “…leave me mystified.” 🙂
I love this version, hearing how good it is as just a demo. I remember a demo tape from another former pop artist and it was so terrible I was embarrassed for her. Here we can hear what Sheena Easton could do in comparison with nothing enhancing her voice.
Also, having spent some time listening to live versions of Sheena, from more recent years, she really never gave more effort than this demo. This was her best vocal piece for sure. 🙂
