Bond’s ‘when in Rome’ of ”Die Another Day” is drinking Mojito in Cuba. A popular longdrink for hot days indeed, Bond offers NSA agent Jinx Johnson a taste, posing as an ornithologist (possibly a good cover as we all know there really is an ornithologist called ‘James Bond’). The scene is set in Cuba but actually shot at the Playa de la Caleta in Cadiz, Spain.
Anyways, the recipe for a Mojito is according to the International Bartenders Association (IBA):
•4 cl White Cuban Rum
•3 cl Fresh lime juice
•6 Mint sprigs
•2 teaspoons white sugar
•Soda water
Muddle mint springs with sugar and lime juice.
Add splash of soda water and fill glass with cracked ice.
Pour rum and top with soda water.
Garnish with spring of mint leaves and lemon slice.
Serve with straw.
(On a personal note, I prefer Havana Club for the rum)
The name is probably derived from the Spanish word ‘mojadito’ which means ‘a little wet’.
The Mojito was a favourite drink of author Ernest Hemingway.
